For as long as I can remember, I always looked for free trials of products and services before I decided to pay for the full service myself. With the explosion of technology, and new apps in the past decade, it always seems like there is something new to try. Finding these trials however, was always one off. I could never find a place that aggregated everything together where I could simply browse and see my options. For years I’ve been looking for this one place, with no luck. As a result I have decided to start a blog, as a way to create that one stop shop, for free trial recommendations, in all sorts of categories.
I love free trials. It is fun to know that you can try something for a week or more, and pay nothing for it. This low risk removes pressure of knowing that I’d have to either pay for the full service up front or be stuck in a month to month subscription. Sometimes it sounds great to have one or two subscriptions but people don’t often see how quickly those add up. A few subscriptions a month could add up to well over $100 a month of additional expenses.
Though I love free trials, to me there is a dark side, and companies have been banking on it for years. I always found it to be a sleezy way for them to make money. What I hate is when the free trials are over, and my card gets charged over and over again, and then three months later I have to call my bank to explain a misunderstanding. I do believe that some companies approach this through the fine prints and many people get screwed over. But being aware of the downfalls and creating a plan to not lose money, especially if you didn’t like the service or app, can allow you to enjoy your free trials as what it was intended to be! A chance to try something new for free!!
I also wanted to create this to show that there are more than just the popular options. When it comes to TV and movies, most people will immediately say Netflix or Hulu, but there are many more options that exist, like STARZ, PhiloTV , SlingTV. Small players have great content and I think consumers would love to try them if they knew it was an option. The same can apply to music, and all other trials and subscriptions you could think of.
Overtime I plan to express the value of trying apps, services, etc. for free; but also talk about the downfall in how to be careful in order to not get charged. Moreover, I plan to give reviews of specific trial options and add a page that is all inclusive of categories services and apps
I’d love for you to join me on this journey and if along the way you have any question, or have feedback. please don’t be afraid to reach out.
